| PA's 50 CLASSIC BOULDERS - note this reads boulders, not boulder problems.
What makes a CLASSIC boulder? Well there's lots of things: concentration of problems, quality rock, good landings, variety of grades, scenery, easy access........ But most of all - a classic boulder is something I'd like to have in my back yard. |

| The BRAIN boulder SW PA - Ah, the brain. Lets's start with a warm-up shall we? Anyway, that's the thought most people get when they first set eyes on the amazing west face of the Brain Boulder. It's freaking cool. I recall Mike Seybold's (whose claim to infamy is breaking the first hold off Jedi Mind Tricks) first reaction on seeing this was to hop right on it, wearing his approach shoes. He came down rather swiftly from near the top. Had sort of a puzzled look on his face.
Never underestimate THE BRAIN |

| If you are well versed in the intracies of gritstone and you don't mind somewhat of a top-out at a height of 2 Brians, then this is a wonderful warm up wall indeed. (Brian is 6 ft 2. You will see him in many 50 classic photos. We use him to measure highballs.) The holds are sticky and positive and even though they may not face the direction you want them to, they all work quite well. | ||||||||||||||

| Aside from the marvelous west face of the brain, the east face of the brain boulder has the classic Sam's Crack and the cheek climbs.
The north face has a low roof with some more fun than they look top-outs and the south face. Well the south face is just plain scary. Downclimbs? The fun arete that makes the left corner of the brain face, or a less technical downclimb on the left end of the low roof. |
